The Department of English was started with the inception of the College, in the year 1969. The aim of the Department was to impart knowledge of English language and to assist rural, poor, disadvantaged students in and around Chikodi in getting English knowledge. Shri. S. S. Kotagi was the first to Head the department and he has laid the strong foundation. Many great teachers like Shri. S. S. Kulkarni, Shri. S. Krishna, Shri. C. B. Kanavalli, Shri. S. S. Urubinavar, Shri. S. B. Nadagouda, Smt. Sujata Patil and Shri. K. S. Ashoka also contributed with their efforts and services to mould and reshape the department. Their everlasting support and zeal made the Department to achieve its goals and fulfill the objectives set by the Department. Their contribution is memorable for the student community and the Department is deeply indebted to all these teachers.
Presently Dr. M. M. Hurali is the Head of the Department with a team of committed teachers like Umesh Neelappanavar, Soumyashri Desai, Sujata Kadapure and Ajit Karigar.
English is taught as Basic subject for BA I to VI semester students, BSc and BCom I to IV semester students. English is also taught as one of the optional core subjects (One of the Three Subjects of Equal Importance) for BA I to VI semester students. English as an Optional subject for UG level is introduced in the year 2014 which is a turning point to the Department.
The Department of English is proud enough to say that the college authority has given permission to introduce career oriented, value added add-on courses like Spoken English, Communication Skills and Translation for which the aspirant students of all the streams can enroll. With this, the department has been conducting Debate Competitions, Singing Competitions, literary activities and many extension activities to foster the needs of the students. The Department also conducted COP with the financial assistance of UGC.
The former Head of the Department, Ashoka K. S. has completed a Minor Research Project titled "Rural Transformation: A Study of Raja Rao's Novel Kanthapura".
The present Head of the Department, Dr. M. M. Hurali has completed a Minor Research Project titled "Problems of Teaching Language Skills at Tertiary Level in Rural Colleges: A Study in Bagalkot District" with financial assistance from UGC. He has also completed his MPhil on "Speaking of Shiva: A Study in Translation" in 1995 and PhD on "Indian English Novels of Social Realism (1980-2000): A Study" in 2013 from Karnatak University, Dharwad.
Recently, Dr. Geetanjali Doddamani joined our Department as an Assistant Professor. Sujata Kadapure and Ajit Karigar passed K-SET exam.
The region is known for Marathi speaking people, hence the Department took it as a challenge to make the students to speak in English and reach to the global competencies.

Department of Economics was established in the year 1969 with the inception of the College. The subject of Economics was taught as major subject during the initial years. Later it has been taught as one of the optional subject under modified curriculum of Rani Channamma University Belagavi. Now, the subject is taught both in English and Kannada medium for students of Arts and Commerce stream. Since 2008, our Department has the privilege of teaching the PG Course in MCOM.
There is a strong feeling for imparting the knowledge of Economics to the rural youth of this region which has rich agricultural and industrial potential for development. The overall performance of the students in the subject is quite satisfactory in the University Examinations.
Shri. S. G. Kulkarni, Shri. M. S. Dodamani and Dr. C. S. Dabb laid a substantial foundation to the Department. At present Shri. J. S. Barangiyavar is heading the Department with the help of additional faculty members Dr. Smt. S. S. Madar and Shri. M. A.Wadeyar.
Shri. J. S. Barangiyavar has completed his MPhil degree on the topic "An Evaluation of Industrial Estates: A Case Study of Haveri District" and Dr. Smt. S. S. Madar completed her PhD on the topic "An Economic Study of Rehabilitation Programmes for Devadasis of Athani Taluka".
FacultyThe Department of Political Science was established with the inception of the college in 1969. Department has the privilege of being served by eminent teachers like Shri. A. B. Hiremath, Shri. B. S. Kinagi, Shri. N. B. Hiremath, Shri. M. V. Kinagi and Shri. J. C. Naikar.
Earlier Political Science was taught as one of the the minor subjects. After the changes in the course structure, the subject is treated as one of the core course of Arts stream. The subject is being taught both in English and Kannada mediums. It deals with Political Theories, Political Thoughts, Indian Government and Politics, Karnataka Government and Politics, Public Administration, Comparative Governments and Politics, International Relations and Political Process and Institutions in India.
Dr. B. G. Kulkarni is presently heading the department. He has been awarded with Doctoral Degree from Kannada University, Hampi on “Political Socialization of Student Organizations in Karnataka – Study” in the year 2017. The strong points about the department are active involvement in research activities and intensive interaction between students and teachers. Faculties in the department have published many articles in refereed journals both national and international.

Mass Communication and Journalism was introduced in the year 2018. The main objective behind introducing the subject is to create an interest in journalism among the rural students. The Department aims at making students understand the history of Indian journalism and its pioneers and to create awareness of mass media among students. Our Department has set goals to enable students to study various types of media, to provide students an opportunity to visit media houses and to motivate students to understand modern trends in Journalism, and also to encourage the students to know about the language of journalism.
Most of our students are from rural, poor and disadvantaged background. Such students in and around Chikodi should not be denied of having knowledge of modern media. The endless support and zeal of the management has created an attitude in us to realize the goals and fulfill the objectives.
Presently Mr. Manjunath Hanji is heading of the Department. The Department is proud enough to say that the college authority has given permission to introduce value added add-on courses related to the newly introduced subject for which the aspirant students of all the streams can enroll.
